How the balance works +

This is a stationary sweep-rowing exercise: one oar, with the rower sitting at the finish and the feathered blade supported by the water. Raise the handle to increase support and lift your oar side; lower it to let that side fall.

The camera looks from the bow toward the rower’s back, so bowside (starboard) is on your left. Strokeside (port) is on your right. The other crew members are represented as passive support. This is a teaching model for this position; blade contact and balance behave differently during a moving stroke.

Keep the boat within 1° of level and let it settle for 0.8 seconds. Use the boat, waterline, and balance indicator to find the right height.
